Ex Port Vale and Newport County midfielder Ryan Burge bagged his second promotion of his career after steering Sutton United to the National League South title and automatic promotion to the National League.
The 27-year-old joined the U’s in February and made an immediate impact the following day on his debut, scoring the opener in a 4-1 home win over Margate.
A week later, in his second match, Burge made it three goals in two games when he scored a brace in a 3-0 win over St Albans City at Clarence Park.
In his fifth game, Burge was forced off against Wealdstone which cut short his season and saw him finish the campaign with five games unbeaten for Sutton with four victories.
The U’s went on to secure promotion, making it a second promotion for Cheltenham born Burge after achieving the feat with Port Vale in 2012/13 season after finishing in third place.
On promotion, Burge said:
“After not playing any football for two years It has been a great return to football on a personal level and to achieve promotion is great but to do it with Sutton Is even better because some of my family were born here.
“I knew I would hit the ground running when I returned to football because I look after myself off the pitch and I’m glad I have been able to now show that now on it.
“Finally, I would like to thank the people that were with me day in and day out when I wasn’t playing football.”
